This
This is the way forward:
For just a moment to release my fears
And to turn in grateful joy to notice the kindness around me
And to smile and give thanks for its presence
To point it out to others
And to laugh together in the sheer delight of such beauty.
Help me salt my days with the recognition of these simple gifts:
A sip of cool water or warm coffee,
Someone opening the door for me,
A kind word,
A silly joke,
A true hug.
You are still here among us.
You have not given up.
Nor will I.
Amen.

The intent of my soul toward my god.
The intent of your soul toward yours,
Finds us leaning deeply upon each other.
It makes me smile.
Neither of us have a handle on the almighty,
Neither can hold the Whole within our minds or hearts,
But when the spirits’s fruits grow up between us,
I count it as a confirmation.

I believe that God is love, that love is the path and goal,
That Jesus brought it close and made it more clearly visible,
That the Holy Spirit stirs it up within us and among us,
That community is the place it is practiced and grown,
That it is stronger than hate and stronger than death.

The single and true purpose of mature religion is to allow you to experience your True Self–who you are in God and who God is in you–and to live a generous life from that Infinite Source. If religion does not do this, it is junk religion. – Richard Rohr
Beauty is to the spirit what food is to the flesh. – Frederick Buechner
Indeed!
All the beauties of this scene sing to my heart:
The imagined rush of wings,
The crisp, cold kiss of snow,
The delicate colors of feather on feather,
The bright eye, focused on flight.
The wonderful balance of it all.
Hurrah for beauty, as it feeds my soul.

Worship is gratitude
that has taken one more step
into wonder.
It contains
A little less of me
A little more of You
And in the end
I find, to my delight,
It has stretched and shaped my soul.
The ‘less of me’ is more.

Let me count the hints of hope that ring my days:
a new marriage for my daughter – forged from hard lessons and determined love
a new grandchild, looking in wonder at the world and babbling joyfully
a steady hug from my husband, ever ready to comfort, support and tease
friends – so many kind and committed friends – who grace my days with centered wisdom
and, somewhere in the hidden corners of my heart, the whisper of the Holy One.

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in. – Anthem: Leonard Cohen
Truth for my soul:
There is no perfect offering
In my hands,
Or in yours.
May the crack in my soul, in my nation,
Give room for light
That we may come like refugees
Into your love.
Thank you, Mr. Cohen.
Praise to the Lord
whose specialty is
barren wombs,
the wilderness,
a lame man’s legs,
and a basket lunch.
I think I can find hope
in such a One.
