the beauty of friendship

friendship's beautyFriendship is a beautiful thing.
It sings softly in the corners of the day.
It smiles quietly when you come through the door
And misses you when you are gone.

It is almost imperceptible at times, but then
It anchors your soul when storms come,
And rejoices in your joys, sending them soaring.
A simple hug from a friend can heal your soul.

I am so grateful for the gift, for the gifts, of friends.

tangible love

kindnessits nice to have those warm and fuzzy feelings
that let me snuggle down into myself
its like a good nap
fun for me, but pretty useless for others
unless I use the energy I gain for them
unless I act out that warmth in human connection

unless love makes a connection
I’m not sure its really love, after all

fractals of the heart

fractals

I write because I think, perhaps,
That my heart is a fractal –
A small reflection of a larger pattern.

And I think, perhaps,
That larger pattern dances
When I do.

image and likeness

likeness

Let us make humans in our image; according to our likeness – Genesis 1:26

Richard Rohr offers a nugget of understanding:
The image is Christ in me;
The likeness is how I live it out.

I like that – that I can somehow be like.
Then, I might actually like myself.
Like, wow.

new year’s prayer and resolution

My prayer for 2018
Is that it will be better than 2017.
Sounds like a pretty low bar.

My resolution for 2018
(and I do better with low bars)
Is that I will be part of the difference.

my wish for you

soft winter light

My friend, I wish for you, this morning
The deep assurance of God’s love.
May it anchor your days and fill your heart
So that your words, your work, your presence
Will echo grace and bring abundant joy
To all you touch.

That love, of course,
Is already deep within you.
I see it, true, each time we meet.
I feel it in your embrace.
It smiles within your eyes.
And I am grateful.

good morning

sunriseGood morning, Holy One.
Good morning.

You smile upon the earth and the sun decides to rise.
You breathe and that breath stirs the trees and sets the waters skipping.
You kiss the earth and it blooms.

How then can my heart be dull?
How can I stop my voice from singing?
How can I sit alone and lonely in the face of such wonder?

Thank you
Thank you
For your constant ‘Yes,’ stirring my soul to unshakable hope.

That is what I need.
That is what you give, this holy morning.

Amen.
